SHOW REVIEW
E.V.S. - exactly violent style. amazing vocalist, twisting and writhing and putting on a hell of a show. the music is totally random-- it sounds like total improv crap, and just when you are ready to dismiss them as a jam band, they all snap into a riff right on cue. amazing.

assorted short breads. stoner rock. they know Robert from what happens next. they have one of the most fucked singers ever. just the most annoying voice!
sorry, it's difficult to do justice in words.
then church of misery. they have a keyboard now. and their clothes are more hippy, so I'm very skeptical. they start out with a hallucinated 30 minute song all on one note. it starts out slow and builds an builds and it's amazing, I'm headbanging and going fucking nuts. then they do some 'regular' songs and I'm just as enthusiastic!!

...

then death comes along. they are musically for shit, but they have the most debauched rock energy, just drunk as fuck and riling the crowd up. the singers are some old old longhaired guy who can't even stand up, and some skinny desperate-for-attention dominatrix girl in a fetish costume. the end song is maybe 15 minutes of one riff over and over again, with the singers and guitar caterwauling, and finally passing out one by one until only the drummer remains, and then he starts going on a drunken solo that sucks. just totally amazing.

then, money is god, who were lame doom stuff so we left.

Sunday July 28
Cosplay debut
I go to a cosplay event, my first. it's hell
of fun! totally absurd.
but unfortunately no one there speaks English, so no one can explain it to
me. too bad. also, I really can't get beyond the sexuality of it. in America,
dressing up like a comic character is like saying 'I'm never going to get
laid in my life, I've given up hope and am living in a fantasy world instead'
but in Japan, girls can dress up like that and they're treated like supermodels.
some girls had like lines of 12 old guys with million dollar cameras lined
up to take their picture. I just got creeped the fuck out!! I want to tell
them, guys, just get a hooker. girls, get some fucking self-esteem.
me I'm taking pictures too, but of the best costumes and not the cutest girls. I take pictures of boys, girls, and okama in equal amounts, or try to.
the other weird thing is these cosplay people are really into para-para dancing. there's at least a dozen people para-paraing the whole time!!
para-para is a sort of japanese version of country line-dancing, where everyone is in a line or circle and does an elaborate sequence of hand-motions which is different for every song.
I talk to dozens of people but none speak English of course.
the other major problem is the costume contest, where dozens of people make elaborate costumes and the winner is some tall thin girl whose costume is. . . a bikini. so fucking immature. 'no I'm not really a hoochie, I'm in costume as a hoochie. it's different. I'm not really sucking your dick either....'

then I bail to meet my pal Kazuyo, in front of snoopy land
like last year. after carrying her expensive-ass present around all month,
I've lost it on the crowded-ass bridge right before I meet her!!!!! fuck!!!
so I grab her and rush to the bridge, and find it still laying on the ground. I say, 'thank god you people don't steal as much as you drink!!'
shop for punk stickers, and then go to dinner at her favorite restaurant,
TGIFridays. huh?? she's so California mania. she knows way more usa punk bands
than I do, and I know way more Japanese punk bands than she does!!!

Monday July 29
Broadway mall, okhibo,
me and yuko go to this model robot shop so I can buy tickets to this anime convention. Yuko is translating between me and the proprietor. Yuko translating goes something like this:
me: can you please ask him if he likes this animation?
Yuko: blah blah blah blahblah blah blah blahblah blah blah blahblah blah blah blahblah blah blah blahblah blah blah blahblah blah blah blah, HAHAHAH AHA!!! blah blah blah blahblah blah blah blahblah blah blah blah HAHA blah blah blah blah HWEEHEEHEEHEEEHAH A blah blah blah blahblah blah blah blahblah blah blah blahblah blah blah blahblah blah blah blahblah blah blah blahblah blah blah blahblah blah blah blah har har har!!!!
guy: blah blah blah blahblah blah blah blahblah blah blah blah HA HA HA blah blah blah blah HAHAHAHAHA blah blah blah blahblah blah blah blahblah blah blah blahblah blah blah blahblah blah blah blahblah blah blah blahblah blah blah blahblah blah blah blahvblah blah blah blahblah blah blah blahblah blah blah blahblah blah blah blah HO HO HO HO HO HO HO HO HO HA HA STEVE CAN*T UNDERSTAND IT*S SO FUNNY HA HAH AHAH AHAHAHAHA
Yuko (to me) yes, he does.
The guy also tells us the horrible truth about Tenchi Muyo: the only reason it's big in America was, the Japanese had lots of leftover merchandise, so they just foisted the cartoon on the stupid Americans to be able to sell their surplus crap.
after we leave, she says the guy accused me of exploiting the anime people by going there and taking pictures even though I'm not a 'true fan' I'm mad, not at the guy (he's a fanatic, society shuns his kind. the only thing he has to hold on to is the supposed fact he's elite or something, and by just waltzing in, I'm taking even that from him.) but I am kind of pissed Yuko didn't tell me he was dissing me at THE TIME.
as for me, I think it's funny the guy called me names for being ignorant, considering he apparently spent half his conversation saying how cosplay people suck ass. and those people know just as much anime trivia as he does!!
then we go to this poster store, I buy a poster for her brother. and ask the poster guy (who speaks English and is really nice) what he thinks of this model builders' convention I'm going to. he tells Yuko model builders are stupid, they suck ass, and I suck for going to their stupid head convention, and I'm an exploiter.
first of all, what's he pissed off about? even if I AM this exploiter, if the model people are so shitty, I'm doing him a favor by exploiting them, aren't I?
I ask her if they would have called me an exploiter to my face if I spoke fluent Japanese. she says well the poster guy spoke good English , so he COULD have called you names to your face. so no, he's just a coward.
still, It's funny how 3 people can love the same manga, but the cosplay fan hates the model-builder fan, who hates the manga-collector fan. Each thinks the other just doesn't 'get it', and should just quit. Why did I not imagine this was the case??
