Outside the convention hall is a big cosplay event. The costumes are more elaborate than the high-school efforts of the last event I went to. It's incredible, especially some of the guys who wear full spiney robot gear.
let me say again, THIS IS A COSTUME, NOT A MODEL. this guy must be seven feet tall.
Also, there was actually one male cosplayer who had a line of female photographers,
a first, I'm sure.
Guys
and girls playing characters from the same anime/manga/game still have very
different meanings. Guys are still nerds like in the USA, but the women have
the option of changing from nerds to models or soft-porn goddesses, even though
they're cosplaying the same anime or games as the guys. So for nerdy girls
who are neglected a lot, I guess that's a hard temptation to resist. I still
want to ask them, 'so you know these guys are beating their meat over your
picture right?' is it worth it?
There was some okama cosplayer so I walked up to him and called him 'kawaii!" (cute) and he got all shocked and said, 'but I'm a boy!" I said, well, duh. But new half. Me too!! he was totally freaked out. only later did I learn that 'new half' means you've had operations to remove your cock

But of course the biggest hit of the cosplay event was the guy playing bagpipes
in full kilt. And not just bagpipes, but playing fucking GOSPEL BAGPIPES.
Amazing grace. While surrounded by aliens and robots, and he's this fucking
highlander. Kick ass.
And then there's one woman who has, no shit, 50 photographers all surrounding
her. what the hell??? She's not better looking or more sexily dressed than
the other women. It is just insane. I keep expecting it to turn into a gang
rape or something. One of the other people explains she's a 'cosplay idol'
. . . what the hell does that mean?? How can you be an idol when you're just
imitating someone ELSE who's famous? And furthermore who doesn't really exist
in the first place??
