I have this firm conviction that cover tunes should either be a) done out of a sincere hatred of the song, to make the original artist cry, or b) done in such a different style that they're unrecognizable.

I like to think there's a little of both on this album, the only album by THE AMINO ASSHOLES.

Actually, I'm the only asshole. But it helps to have different band names for all the different bands I'm not in. And the Amino Assholes are the cover band.

Most of these are double-parodies, which is to say that they're versions of one band's song, done in the style of another band.

All this stuff is performed by me, except:

Hot for Teacher : Jason Kocol sang, played guitar, and engineered it.

Meow Mix: additional vocals by gary (noothgrush), kamilah chavis (descending sorrow), and Greg (brainoil)

The Amino Assholes actually did have one gig. Gilman Street.  It was my idea to play the Meow Mix jingle for the entire length of the set, with 12 people, gradually adding musicians at the rate of one per minute or so. Unfortunately, I assumed that the Meow Mix theme was so fundamental – so universal – that we did not need to rehearse it. This was proved wrong on the seventeenth note, when the bassist (who started the song solo, the first guy) added a single extra note on the end , thus throwing off everyone who came after him: were they supposed to play this new, longer version of the jingle? Or play the traditional jingle, thus turning the whole set into this 16/17 rondo, like a sludge version of  row, row, row your boat?  Things went downhill from there, culminating in the actual, physical legs of my drum stool folding up under me – by around minute 15 of this fiasco, the 4-legged stool basically had one giant leg, which transformation coincided with the beginning of the blast-beats. I played the final 4 minutes standing up, as if I were a Stray Cat who had wandered into an Immortal concert. It was wretched.

Anyway, usually at this point in an mp3 post, I'll do an ass-load of liner notes. But in this case, that would spoil the surprise.  You'll just have to guess what song it is, and whose style it's played in.

i'm with you on the covers should be so far away from the original but I don't know how you could hate the original Cars That Go Boom. The cover is my favourite here, followed closely by I Feel Love.
The playlist details kind of spoil the surprise of what is what.
